The International School of Monaco is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Building Engineer.

The Building Engineer’s technical responsibilities include the operations, maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment. Duties include all aspects of routine and emergency plant operations.


Main responsibilities will be:

  • Inspects and analyses equipment and diagnoses trouble or malfunctions and makes necessary decisions to minimise service interruptions and equipment downtime.
  • Provides input to the planning of equipment system maintenance of ISM’s preferred suppliers for building maintenance to minimise service interruptions, child safety risks and equipment downtime through reliability centred maintenance practices
  • Organises and ensures a wide variety of maintenance and repair work in relation to the installation, maintenance, and repairs of boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, and building equipment and infrastructure in general.
  • Ensures an awareness and compliance to the contractual KPI’s/SLA’s
  • Oversees the execution of daily operations and maintenance activities performed by ISMs Concierge Team and Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) contract personnel.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring, as needed, to the Concierge Team to perform the building infrastructure tasks required in a complete and accurate manner and delivered with outstanding customer service.
  • Performs a wide variety of complex operating procedures to ensure the proper operation of the building’s plant rooms, emergency generator operation, and others.
  • Conducts scheduled tours of all plant rooms to ensure optimal performance
  • Analyses risks and prioritise tasks to manage them
  • Attends regular meetings with key personnel with service partners and be their key contact person within ISM
  • Responds to all emergencies, and takes appropriate action to identify problems and take corrective actions without compromising watch duties.
  • Ensures that reactive tasks throughout the building are completed.
  • Ensures that sub-contractors perform to meet the requirement of the contract. Administer sub-contractor work approvals and safe operation while repair or service is carried out on site.
  • Works with service partners to ensure that suitable spares are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works
  • Ensures that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices at all times
  • Leads on the purchase of a CAFM system to enable better management of the building and demonstrate compliance.
  • Reviews and advises on all service partners quotations and verification of invoicing
  • Ensures all safety, environmental, and site standards are strictly adhered to within the facility by both ISM and their service partners performing work.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, all applicable building codes



  • Experience in working within Plant Rooms and Plumbing, Heating, HVAC and Vent systems
  • Technically competent and qualified to safely operate, and make safe to work on or test, the equipment, systems, or installations for which appointment is sought
  • General knowledge of industry maintenance and repair practices
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and plan work without direct supervision
  • Experience in works delivery supervision or relevant post
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Confident and self-motivated
  • Ability to coach colleagues in the moment, continuously providing feedback to improve their performance
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams and other internal stakeholders
