University Counselling

UNIVERSITY COUNSELLING AT ISM

The International School of Monaco, aware of the uniqueness of every student, takes as its goal to help all students achieve their maximum academic potential. In line with that mission, the university counseling office works to find the most appropriate university fits for each student, given his or her performance and potential. Often, students will apply to universities in different countries, proof that ISM students are truly international and ready to pursue higher education in a variety of challenging contexts.

The university guidance office believes strongly that the student is the driving force behind the university application process, which is an educational experience in its own right. The university counselor helps the students to bring to the forefront the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills they have honed in the context of our international community. To find simultaneously exciting and realistic matches between students and post-secondary institutions requires open lines of communication, honest feedback, and an ongoing spirit of cooperation among the key players—students, their parents, academic advisors and the university counselor. Students learn how to assess themselves, gauge their preferences, and articulate their goals; they learn how to research university possibilities in light of their findings; they develop the skill of following through on various responsibilities, from testing choices and dates to recommendation requests, essays, application deadlines, and interviews. Ultimately, they are, for the first time of many, taking on the role of molding their own future.

The university counseling office opens up the university world to the students and the school to the university world in a variety of ways. Throughout the year, ISM welcomes admissions and professionals to the school to meet our students, provide information about their colleges or programs, and learn more about the specific characteristics and qualities of our school and students. The university counselor travels to university campuses and attends professional conferences in the Europe and the United States in order to keep abreast of latest developments in higher education and the admissions process. As one of the advocates for ISM students, the university counselor not only knows the school’s academics and student life well but furthermore takes the time to get to know each student well.
