At ISM, the Middle Years Unit offers a caring and supportive community for students aged 11 to 14 years (Classes 7 to 9). Each class of 16 students has a Homeroom teacher who provides pastoral care and the vital link between school and home.
The students follow the IB Middle Years Programme which provides breadth and balance and emphasises intellectual, social, creative and physical development. It is designed to give students a firm foundation in all the basic disciplines, as well as developing an understanding of how these disciplines relate to each other.
In the Middle Years Unit, English is the predominant language of instruction with French retaining an important place, as the school’s 2nd official language. Spanish is offered as the school's third language and mother tongue support is given in German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.
